About this event

The Jr Black Achievement Awards Society (JrBAA) is excited to host our Community Picnic in the Park, a lively celebration of our young achievers and community networking.  The Picnic in the Park aims to foster a sense of unity, celebrate the achievements of Black youth, and provide a platform for organizations to showcase their work and engage with the community. JrBAA is happy to partner with several community organizations and businesses to showcase their work and highlight their initiatives.

The Need

Vounteers for Security Duty to maintain a safe and secure environment within the park premises by conducting regular patrols, monitoring activities, and responding to incidents or emergencies to ensure the safety and well-being of park visitors and property.

Related tasks

  • Conduct routine patrols throughout the park to deter and detect any suspicious activities or potential security threats.

  • Monitor park facilities, entrances, and parking areas to ensure the safety and security of visitors, staff, and park property.

  • Enforce park rules and regulations, addressing any violations or disruptive behaviour appropriately.

  • Respond promptly to incidents, emergencies, or distress calls within the park, providing assistance and coordinating with emergency services if necessary.

  •  Maintain a visible presence and engage with park visitors, offering assistance, information and ensuring a friendly and welcoming
    environment.

  • Provide guidance and assistance during the event, crowd management, and parking control to ensure smooth operations.

  • Prepare detailed incident reports documenting any security-related incidents, accidents, or property damage.

  • Collaborate with park management, law enforcement agencies, and emergency services to develop and implement security protocols and
    emergency response plans.

  • Maintaining a safe and secure environment for all to enjoy a day of fun in community.

Additional information

  • Please arrive on time.
  • We welcome and encourage volunteers to bring their picnic baskets for their break time and networking.
  • Be sure to log your ivolunteer hours after you shift.

Attributes

  • The ability to interact professionally and courteously with guests, addressing their concerns and providing assistance.
  • Clear and effective communication to convey park regulations, provide directions and handle guest inquiries.
  • Diligent in monitoring park facilities, entrances, and parking areas to ensure the safety and security of visitors, staff, and park property.

Volunteer Requirements

All volunteers must:

  • complete and submit your JRBAA volunteer application https://jrbaa.org/volunteer
  • complete a criminal record check for the vulnerable sector
  • sign United Way British Columbia’s volunteer waiver
  • Completion of basic security training courses or certifications, such as security guard training or crowd management training, is an asset.
  • Arrive at 10:30 am to attend a training session with a JrBAA member.

Boundaries

Parents are responsible for minors. Volunteers do not supervise minors or provide child-minding services. Volunteers cannot accompany children. to the washroom.
