Description

The Interior Women’s Centre Society is a community organization dedicated to empowering women and their families through education, advocacy, and support. We provide a safe and welcoming space where women can access resources that promote independence, well-being, and personal growth. Our programs address the diverse needs of women, including support for employment and career development. 

As a Volunteer Community Advocate, you will provide 1:1 case management and support to individuals through three key service areas: Drop-In Services, Outreach, and Library Advocacy. By volunteering in this role you will play an essential role in connecting individuals with resources, support systems, and services that promote stability and well-being.  

This is the right role for you if you are someone who has: 

  • Experience in case management, social work, or advocacy (preferred). 

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to connect with diverse populations. 

  • Ability to handle sensitive information and maintain confidentiality. 

  • Knowledge of community resources, social services, and support systems. 

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills to manage multiple priorities. 

  • Flexibility and adaptability to meet client needs in different settings. 

  • A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation (an asset). 

  • First Aid and CPR certification, or willingness to obtain it. 

A Community Advocate Volunteer’s main tasks are: 

  • Conduct client intakes and develop case management plans. 

  • Provide one-on-one support through appointments and meetings with clients. 

  • Facilitate drop-in engagements, offering immediate support and referrals. 

  • Maintain accurate and confidential records of client interactions and progress. 

  • Conduct street outreach, providing essential items and information about available services. 

  • Support clients with referrals to the women’s centre for ongoing assistance. 

  • Accompany clients to medical appointments, family visits, court hearings, and government meetings as an advocate. 

  • Offer one-on-one support at both the Northshore and Downtown libraries. 

  • Assist with KWC-facilitated workshops on Tuesdays and Thursdays, supporting facilitators as needed. 


Time Commitment:
This is a volunteer position requiring approximately 10-15 hours per week. Some flexibility may be required to accommodate outreach schedules, workshops, and client appointments.
