Adaptive Sports at Sun Peaks (ASSP) is dedicated to making the mountain experience accessible to all by providing adaptive outdoor adventures for individuals living with physical, visual, and neuro-divergent challenges. Since our founding in 2008 by passionate volunteers, we have grown into a vibrant charitable organization, delivering weekly adaptive ski and snowboard lessons throughout the winter season and expanding into summer programs including hiking, stand-up paddleboarding, canoeing, and mountain biking.
As a Volunteer Instructor you will use the ASSP mission and vision to guide all decisions and actions to facilitate the seamless delivery of snow sport programs. Your role is important as instructors are charged with the safety of their students, while delivering progressive, fun lessons that promote developing independent snow riding.

Is willing to support different types of learners through the instruction process.
APosition Title Volunteer’s main tasks are:
Attend weekend morning meetings & “First Tracks” training when possible.
(Sat/Sun First Tracks Training 8:30-9:30am & Masa’s Meetings 9:30-10am)
Connect with partner instructor prior to lessons, to prepare lesson plans.
Debrief with partner instructor following each lesson, and complete informative lesson logs.
Prepare progressive, challenging and appropriate lesson plans for each student.
Fill out timely and appropriate report cards as required.
Provide “Recognition Statements” for every local student, for Year End Celebration Certificates.
Attend special events including the Romp & Stomp Snowshoe Fundraiser and Year End Celebration if possible.
Adhere to all safety guidelines and procedures.
It is expected that instructors will wear their ASSP uniform when teaching, training, or performing any duties on behalf of the organization. Green jacket, and black pants. Zips zipped! Name tag in place.
Training and Experience
Prior knowledge of how to Ski and/or Snowboard is required. Instructional experience is an asset.Some training is provided. Volunteers will:
Be asked to attend orientation and training sessions as required.
Need to learn to Navigate Snowline and record all teaching and training hours.
Time commitment:
The position is a season-long commitment, with the bulk of the hours taking place between November - April. Lessons are offered 7 days per week. Lesson Times are10am-12pm and 1-3pm. You will need to arrive 10 minutes before your lesson.
If a volunteer needs to be absent, we ask that they provide as much notice as possible to the ED/Program Coordinator to arrange a suitable substitute.
